The Strange Case at Misty Ridge
By David Brian
The dead are never still, they exist just beyond the corners of our eye, in the barren wasteland beyond our own phantasmagoria, and we, for the most part, remain oblivious to their plight.
Jack Keswick survived a tragedy that claimed many lives. He knows he is a lucky man.
Life changing injuries forced Jack into semi-retirement, but he now spends his days fulfilling what has been a lifetime passion; investigating reports of paranormal activity.
These cases have led to his experiencing a number of unexplained incidents; though he also has his own cross to bear when it comes to the bizarre.
Since the accident which almost ended him, Jack has developed a tendency to experience out-of-body events, and these unaccountable bouts of astral projection are now presenting questions of their own.
When a young woman turns up at Jack’s door, claiming her home is infested with troublesome spirits, his investigations lead to a haunted cottage, the restless dead, and the revelation of a maleficent force that will forever change Jack’s perception of reality.

The Cthulhu Child
By David Brian
There are many different aspects to the world of horror, and all of them have their own particular place when it comes to providing scares for the reader. We all love monsters, regardless of whether they be vampires, werewolves, or tentacled monstrosities. Equally, literature is full of tales about masked 'slashers', those who hide in the shadows, and who are on an unstoppable quest to hunt us down. Sometimes though, we are confronted by events in the real world which can be as harrowing as any presented by creatures who stalk the night. Whilst not directly corresponding to the situations mentioned above, The Cthulhu Child provides a selection of darkly disturbing tales, each dealing with a separate element of the horror genre, and culminating in Every Single Night, a flash fiction homage to the Godfather of British horror - James Herbert R.I.P. A new collection of twisted tales, from the mind of David Brian.

Carmilla - The Wolves of Styria
By Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu and David Brian
When fate draws together the lives of two young women, their mutual attraction quickly flourishes into a bond which threatens the boundaries of social etiquette in 1860’s Styria. As their relationship continues to develop further, they remain oblivious to the growing horror which surrounds them, as throughout the province other young women begin dying in mysterious circumstances. Meanwhile, others are falling victim to the apparently random attacks of a rampaging pack of wolves. When, finally the truth is revealed, the scene is set for a battle between two ancient evils.
Years before the publication of Bram Stoker's Dracula, Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu produced a haunting gothic mystery called Carmilla. David Brian has used much of the original narrative to create a very different version of Carmilla. Introducing an array of new characters, and touching on subjects which would have been considered taboo in the 1800's, Brian has succeeded in bringing a whole new level of horror, and tragedy, to the legend of Carmilla.

Big Bad
By David Brian
A short read of approximately five thousand words: Tommy has spent many years detained within Broad-lands Institute -- a hospital for the criminally insane. Over time he has learned to accept his confinement. After all, it is no more than he deserves given the heinous nature of his previous crimes.
However, when a new member of the nursing staff begins taking an interest in Tommy, he learns things previously kept from him: Like why he is being permanently dosed with meds. How, and why, his parents really died. And is it just a coincidence his earlier crimes occurred at the time of a full moon?
Nurse Jenny informs Tommy about the true nature of his world: Secret Government cabals, and their plans for a New World Order; the murder of his parents, and facing up to the reality of his life as a werewolf.
Then, when she thinks he is ready, she tells him the biggest secret of all: Nurse Jenny has a way out of Broad-lands.
But, as is often the case, nothing comes without a price. What is the real motivation for her aiding Tommy's escape? A tale of horror that unfolds beneath the light of a full moon.
